Auto shows are kind of a big deal, as that is where car makers go to show off new cars and concept models. Chevrolet is taking the 2014 Impala to the New York Auto Show, along with some other new cars.
A brand new start of it
The New York Auto Show, according to Auto Blog, is set to kick off on April 4 and, just like every other car show, a bevy of car companies are going to turn up with new stuff and show the press what the public is going to be able to buy in the near future.
Chevrolet is taking some new stuff, including the 2014 Impala. A couple of teaser photos have been released of the upcoming version of the car on the NY Auto Show Facebook page, which gives a glimpse of the rear quarter where the roof meets the trunk.
It’s also the swansong for the Impala as Chevrolet’s NASCAR platform, which is being replaced with a totally new model. It has previously been suggested that new car is going to be a new Caprice, based on the current Caprice that is only sold as a police vehicle.
All in good rumor
There haven’t been any mechanical details released concerning the next Impala. However, Car and Driver and other publications have picked up spy photos of the test mules. The new car gets stretched a bit, giving it similar proportions to the Cadillac XTS full-size sedan.
The new Impala is likely to get the same drive train of the current model, which has a 300 horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 with a six-speed automatic transmission. For full-size cars, the Impala is quite fuel efficient, as it gets up to 30 miles per gallon in highway driving. Last year, according to USA Today, the Impala was the third best-selling model for Chevy with 171,434 units sold, though 75 percent of them were sold to commercial fleets.
Car and Driver and AutoBlog both project the 2014 model will get a turbo-charged four-cylinder as an option, as well as the eAssist “mild hybrid” system found in the Malibu Eco.
Aside from the new Impala, the new NASCAR platform, as well as a GT racer and street version of the new rear-wheel drive performance car rumored to be the new Caprice.
Chevrolet is also, according to a press release on General Motors’ website, going to show off the 2013 Traverse. A teaser photo for the interior of the new Traverse was recently released. Chevy will also show off the Spark minicar, as well as the Cruze Eco, “Tru 140S” and “Code 130R” concept cars.
