Commercial
In 2003, Scion vehicles exploded onto the American market. Scion vehicles are sold very differently than most in the U.S., with flat rate pricing and only one trim level. Scion vehicles, however, are built to be the most easy-to-customize vehicles on the market.
Scion engineering
Scion began in 2002 and was an idea of Toyota Motor Corporation. Scions are built from the ground up as a vehicle with high quality and careful Toyota engineering. The vehicles are known for having design that stands out from the usual models on the road in the U.S. and can be identified very easily. With the years of experience of Toyota research and design but a completely different design aesthetic, the Scion has the best of both worlds of vehicle design.
Simplicity in buying
The Scion brand has been structured to make the entire purchasing process very easy. Scion uses "Pure Price" structuring, meaning that the posted price of a Scion includes the vehicle, accessories, insurance and financing cost in total. Scion dealers are not allowed to negotiate the price; instead, they must honor the single posted price. There is only one trim level of the Scion available, so there is no additional model or better package to compare. Only a few thousand of each model are produced, and most only come in one color. Pre-orders are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Very limited supplies of each run are available, and when manufacturing supplies run out, they run out until the next model.
All about the aftermarket
Scions are produced with very little choice pre-purchase for a specific reason: They are intended to be customized after-market. Scion itself offers more than 150 accessories designed for the vehicles, and after-market vendors create thousands more. Not all aftermarket accessories are entirely compatible with the vehicles, but they are each sold individually, rather than in packages. Scion often features drivers' heavily customized vehicles in their advertisements and actively encourages after-market modifications. Scion also aligns itself with a strong community of artists and musicians.
